I'm doing a research project on a short story. How can I find peer reviewed and non sources?
Hello, I'm doing a research project for the story "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place". What are the hours on normal business days to get in contact with a librarian? I need 5 peer reviewed sources and 3 non-peer reviewed sources.
Answer
When you are researching a short story, I would suggest using one of the library's literature databases. To access them, follow these instructions:
- Go to the Library's homepage
- Click on Articles
- Enter your search terms in one of the following databases:
Poetry and Short Story Reference Center
Literature Resource Center (LRC) (Gale)
(As of fall 2022, you no longer need an HFC library card (barcode) to access the library’s databases from off campus. Please use your HFC username and password to log in.)
- Search for your short story and/or your author using the search boxes
- Once you run a search, look on the far right. You will see two check boxes. Once says "Full Text Documents"--make sure that is checked. And the other says "Peer-Reviewed Journals", check that one when you need to limit to peer-reviewed sources.
Note: In order to get enough Peer-reviewed sources, you may have to research both the story AND the author.
To visit the reference desk in person to chat with a librarian, you can view current library hours on the library's homepage.
If you need additional assistance, please contact a librarian.
