I need help researching how people are biased against fat people

I have to write a final paper and I am not sure how to research my topic. Can you help me?

Answer

Thank you for your question asking for help conducting research about weight bias.

As I am sure you understand, in writing your paper it is important to avoid terms that have a negative impact on the body image or self-esteem of other people and write about everyone with respect.

To find Books on your topic, go to the Library Homepage click on Books.

  • Use neutral keywords in the Catalog search box
    • Body image
    • Body size
    • Discrimination against overweight persons.
  • Results will be a list of books and how to access them.

For more books, go to MeL (Michigan eLibrary)

  • Use neutral keywords in the MeL search box
    • Body image
    • Body size
    • Discrimination against overweight persons.
    • Lookism
    • Sizeism
    • Weight bias
  • Results will be a list of books
    • Use your HFC username and password to access
    • Request books be sent to HFC from other libraries

To find Articles on your topic:

(As of fall 2022, you no longer need an HFC library card (barcode) to access the library’s databases from off campus.  Please use your HFC username and password to log in.)
