How can I access the library's online videos/films (including kanopy)?

Answer

Thank you for your question on accessing online videos/films. The library has several online streaming platforms, including Kanopy. To access the library's video databases, go the Library's homepage and click on Videos

(As of fall 2022, you no longer need an HFC library card (barcode) to access the library’s databases from off campus. Please use your HFC username and password to log in.)

You can also access these platforms by clicking on Articles to see the entire list of the library's research databases and following these steps:

1. Near the top, click on the pull-down menu that says "All Subjects" and select the one that says "Videos".

2. Select the database you would like to search. Each database has a brief description, to help you make your decision based on the content. Once you choose a database, enter your HFC username and password to access if prompted.

If you want to watch films on Kanopy, you MUST ACCESS THEM THROUGH THE LIBRARY'S LINK (as seen above). It will look like this and then you will click "Log in to HFCC".

NOTE: Different database vendors will have different layouts, but they all have the same basic functionality. Anything that is "full text" you should be able to view.

  • For help using Kanopy, check here: How to use Kanopy.
  • If you are using one of the Gale In Context databases to locate videos, you will search for your topic and then, in the results, click on the link for "Videos". Not every topic will have videos.

3. Select and watch your film!

If you aren't sure how to find a video on your topic, or stuck trying to find a specific video, please contact a Librarian and we can help you.
